It's an odd feeling, not traveling alone any longer. Months spent in solitude have left him accustomed to the long periods of silence, days spent without hearing the words of another person at all. Him, the wild and nothing else.
At the same time, there's a sense of... familiarity at Zelda's presence. Even with the mere handfuls of memories he's regained of their times together a hundred years earlier, it's felt more like slipping back into an old rhythm than anything else. Or maybe it's more a return of something he hadn't noticed had been missing.
Familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. It's strange.
Still, it's meant more than a few changes. He can't quite go wherever he pleases anymore, exploring whatever peaks or valleys that catch his eye, but it's given him a new sense of focus. A duty. It also means he can't sleep quite as late as he wants.
This morning, as usual, he's been up since the sun had started to rise over the horizon, and set about preparing for the day's travels. By the time Zelda wakes, she'll find him sitting by a rekindled campfire from the night before and breakfast well underway.
[OOC: Okay, figured I'd chuck out a fairly general starter. I'm cool with rolling with anything so I figured we'd see where this goes. Let me know if anything needs changing.]
Returning to the living world was something Zelda had yearned for, all those years spent in darkness. They blur together now, a great mass of formless time spent waiting, bracing, hoping. It's a joy to be back among grass and trees and sunlight. And yet it's odd as well, something a little unfamiliar. Like wearing an old piece of clothing for the first time in many years.
Zelda stretches in her bedroll, relishing the little aches that come from first movement. She wouldn't trade it for anything. Dressing quickly, she emerges from the tent, following the by now familiar scent of a meal already cooking. She smiles at the sight of Link tending to the cooking plate. Her companion did take meals very seriously.
"You must have started quite early, this morning. What are you cooking?"
Sometimes he wonders where exactly he'd picked up these skills. Things like cooking, survival. Not to mention fighting with a sword and a bow. Sure, he'd learned plenty on his adventures but the amount of skill didn't match up with that. Even without the memories of learning, somehow the skills had remained. Just another question surrounding the Shrine of Resurrection that he figured they might never get an answer to.
This, at least, he was sure he'd picked up for fun as much as necessity. Cooking had been something he'd liked to do on his journey just as much as he'd had to.
"Nothing complicated. I got some rabbit earlier and I thought I'd toss in a couple of those mushrooms from the other day, should keep us going." He glances up towards her, a slight, teasing grin pulling at his expression. "And you slept in today."
She heads over to the campfire, peering over Link's shoulder at the stew bubbling away. Rabbit does sound good, after a few meals of mainly vegetables. At Link's comment, she straightens up, tossing her hair a little in mock offence.
"I didn't; I believe you're the one who woke up early." Zelda steals a look at where the sun sits on the horizon, though. Maybe she had slept a bit longer than usual.
It was freeing, though, to know that schedules weren't so important to keep out here. They had places to be, yes. Long miles to cover. But no one else was going to come along and tell them they were lagging behind.
A quiet chuckle escapes him as a small grin crosses his features at her playful offense.
"Of course. Whatever you say, your highness." It's not a reproach or a complaint, clear enough by the laugh in his tone. As far as he's concerned, Zelda has already earned any morning she spends sleeping a little late. He's the one who laid around for a hundred years while she was fighting. And she's been working tirelessly ever since.
Besides, there's time. There's work to do but without any particular doom looming over everything. For once, a few hours here and there won't make a difference.
"Here." He fills up a bowl, handing it back to her. "Tell me what you think. It's a little less spicy than last time."
She takes the bowl from Link gratefully, smiling warmly.
"You've had a lot more time to get used to spicy food than I have, I expect. I'll certainly let you know." Moving around to the other side of the fire, Zelda seats herself on one of the large rocks scattered around, balancing the bowl on her knee. It smells delicious, and she have no doubt it will taste just as good.
"You'll get there." With Zelda's food handed over he goes about scooping his own into another bowl before settling back, just as comfortable sitting on the ground himself. "You'll get there, we'll just start slow. Once we start heading into some colder areas you might start really appreciating it."
He smiles a bit, remembering his own first few woefully underprepared trips into some of the harsher areas of Hyrule. Not just cold either. At least he'll be able to make sure Zelda avoids the worst of those places.
"We'll have to keep an eye on them but we have a few. We'll have to do some resupplying when he can." He takes a bite of his food and immediately grimaces, shaking his head a bit. "Still hot."
"All right. I can keep an eye out for apple trees." Easy enough to do from horseback; it's the more obscure items that she wouldn't necessarily see at a first glance. Zelda smothers a grin at the pained look on Link's face.

"Is it? I'll wait a few moments then."
